I have been breeding dogs for over 20years, if I didn't breed I'd still own 4 or 5 dogs, it just who I am. I breed Cairn Terriers & Standard Poodles, both of which are considered hyper-allergenic. I love my Poodles, most people would think of them as fragile, but they really are no different from any other dog. Mine love to play in the snow for as long as I'll let them. I do keep their coat a little fuller in winter for this purpose. My Standards are very sensitive to my family's moods and will naturally keep close when my children have been sick or hurt. Everyone seems to know the Standard Poodle is Highly intelligent but not many know how loyal they are.
Many people ask about the problems of keeping up with the requirements for groom a Standard Poodle. I personally don't find it much of a problem, in early spring I shave them down rather close and keep the coat short over the summer. I shave them down again in late fall and leave the coat for winter play. I do however shave their faces/feet more often for several reasons, one being snow collects on long hair at the feet, which cause what I call snow ball feet. With the face, I just find hairy faces in water bowls leads to messy floors and an un-kept look. Brushing with a wide comb or slicker brush once/week should keep the coat looking fresh.
Standard Poodles are great for people with allergies because they don't shed hair in the same fashion as the average dog, nor do they have a lot of dander. For those macho men and women who think the poodle is for sissy's they were once prized in Europe for their great water retrieving skills. The poodle is a versatile dog and competes in field, obedience, and agility trials and is used as a service dog for the disabled. They have also been used as sled dogs and even raced in the iditarod. Because of the keen intelligence and agility you will often see them perform in circuses. Standards Poodles are the complete dog.
We are located about 1.5hrs east of Toronto in the Northumberland countryside. We have a large property that borders on several hundred acres of woodlands where are dogs love to go on walks.
Our Puppies are given plenty of human attention and gentle handling from birth. This will produce dogs with exceptional temperaments that are a pleasure to own and make a cherished addition to your family.
Although our name implies we have outside kennels, nothing could be further from the truth. All our dogs live in the house with us.
